Improved fixed bed models for correlating asymmetric adsorption breakthrough curves

چکیده

Abstract Breakthrough curves of water contaminants are usually analyzed using simple fixed bed models such as the Bohart-Adams, Thomas, and Yoon-Nelson equations, which by design symmetric. Because breakthrough data often follow an asymmetric pattern, use that do not account for asymmetry could lead to poor fits, consequently resulting in erroneous estimates exhaustion times. To address this issue, were modified a logarithmic transformation enhance their fitting ability. The three found capable providing robust fits seven separate sets previously reported (fluoride, methylene blue, salicylic acid, lead, mercury, nickel, arsenic), with residual root mean square error (RRMSE) values ranging from 0.019 0.046. In consequence, new reliable times corresponding any predetermined concentration level. By contrast, original perform poorly, reporting inferior RRMSE 0.038 0.086 grossly inaccurate contain only parameters appear models, highly flexible, being able assume virtually all monotonically increasing sigmoid shapes. They represent far more accurate alternative models.

An Experimental Study of Adsorption Breakthrough Curves for CO2/CH4 Separation in a Fixed Bed of Nanoporous Shaped Copper Trimesate Metal Organic Framework

Copper trimesate (Cu-BTC) MOF has been pointed out as a promising adsorbent for separating carbon dioxide from methane. However, MOF’s need to be shaped prior to their use in packed bed adsorbers in order to reduce pressure drop; on the other hand, the production of mechanically resistant shaped bodies reduces their adsorption performance. In this work, Cu-BTC tablets provided by BASF are evalu...

Mathematical Modeling of Fixed Bed Adsorption: Influence of Main Parameters on Breakthrough Curve

Dynamic modeling and simulation of fixed bed adsorption process was carried out by explaining the behavior of breakthrough curve parameter. Adsorption of sulfur compound, present in road fuel, has posed a great challenge. A model of fixed bed adsorption of benzothiophene from fuel was formulated with non-ideal plug flow behavior and considered velocity variation along a column. The model was so...

Removal of chlorinated volatile organic compounds by fixed bed adsorption technique: Adsorption equilibrium and breakthrough analyses

The adsorption equilibrium and dynamic breakthrough behaviour of chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs), namely chloroform and carbon tetrachloride, were experimentally investigated by using pelleted activated carbon in a fixed bed. The experimental studies were carried out at atmospheric pressure, the temperature of 313 K, the gas flow rate of 3 L/min and various inlet gas phase concen...
